My name is Tiffany Wysocki. I am 28 years old and live in the Capital Region of New York. I am expecting my first child, a daughter on July 27th, 2018. I am a marathoner, I have completed 10 races with my daughter and logged over 600 miles during my pregnancy.
I teach 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts at an inner-city school in the Capital Region of New York. It's been amazing being able to share my pregnancy journey with my students and inspire them along the way. I have been open in that I share my fit pregnancy journey with them - they think I'm a "beast" for all the races I've completed with my daughter. I want to not only teach our youth, but to be a role model for them, especially young girls who are so impressionable in their early teen years. My students know that I was an avid runner before becoming pregnant, and that I have been able to continue running throughout my pregnancy. I want them to know that being healthy and strong is important, and I hope that by sharing my journey with them, they feel empowered to go for their dreams and not to give up on something just because it doesn't always come easy for them.
My favorite fit pregnancy workout is running, specifically distance running. I have had to cut back on my mileage throughout the course of my pregnancy, but being able to share any miles with my daughter has been the most rewarding experience. My fitness philosophy is that I am pregnant, not powerless. My body was made to carry this child, and my body was made to run. I have been more mindful to listen to my body since becoming pregnant, and make modifications when needed but I have also never felt stronger than I have since becoming pregnant. A woman's body is so amazing. We have the ability to make another human - that is powerful in itself. I want women to know that pregnancy is not an illness, but the complete opposite; it's empowering. If anything, women should feel stronger becoming a mother than they ever have in their life.
Becoming a marathoner for the first time in October 2017 is something that I am most proud of. If you really want to test your strength, both mental and physical, train and complete a marathon. It was easily the hardest, but most rewarding thing I have ever done. For 16 weeks, I trained for this race. The craziest thing about it is that you only have one day to give it all you've got, and you never know what kind of conditions Mother Nature is going to hand you. Race day came and it was extremely hot and humid, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky (which is unheard of in Upstate New York in October). I knew it was going to be a tough race from the start and that I would have to fight the whole way to the finish. I wanted to give up more times than I can count but I just kept going. I gave up so much, and made so many sacrifices during training that I knew I would never forgive myself if I didn't finish this race. My official time was 4:03:58. I don't think I have ever been so proud as I was that day. I finished something that so few get to finish, and I didn't give up even when it felt like all the odds were against me. We are so much stronger than we think!
