Behind the Scenes with For Two Fitness: The Fabrics Behind Our Clothing

by For Two Fitness

What’s so special about performance fabrics? Investing in quality fabrics makes all the difference for fit, comfort, performance and longevity. Let's not forget health. We don't want any petroleum, toxic chemicals or formaldehyde on our clothing or babies. We want organic non toxic. We know the For Two Fitness mom is a discerning and mindful consumer and only wants the best for herself and her baby. Read on to find out more about the technical features of our eco-friendly fabrics and our commitment to free you from chemical ridden dry itchy carded cotton oversized tees. In addition to those features, we also offer you fun, high-quality detail specific designs for the gym, or your run or running around town.

Our premium apparel is made of the highest quality fibers and blends from the finest suppliers and mills. Check the label, and you’ll find the very same fabric content you are already use to in your pre-pregnancy premium athletic, activewear and loungewear.

Lycra® is an elastane with tremendously unique stretch and recovery properties that can stretch up to seven times its orginal length. Yes, you read that correctly. SEVEN times. It also offers comfort, shape retention, durability, and freedom of movement. Lycra usually makes up just a small percentage of the fabric blend because it is so powerful – a little goes a long way! We use it to ensure that our apparel fits your growing belly and changing body from the start of your pregnancy to the finish line and then some.

Another major player in performance apparel is polyester. This much-loved fiber is hydrophobic, which means the fabric will not absorb water and will wick away sweat easily.   Poly is also resistant to shrinking and wrinkling, and retains its shape. Many of your silky soft tops are poly blends, and this makes all the difference for comfort of a favorite tee without the soggy results you’d get from a cotton tee. But while this sounds great, don't forget you are wrapping your body and your growing baby in Petroleum. Hmm doesn't sound as appealing now that you know. Does it? Well tis is why we don't offer it anymore. we encourage you to PLEASE read labels for you and baby.

Rayon is made from wood pulp, in this case from bamboo.  Specialty rayon fabrics you have in your closet already include viscose, modal and lyocell. You know how soft these are!   Rayon is smooth, soft, cool, and facilitates the transfer of body heat to help you stay cool on your long afternoon running after the kids or intense gym sessions. Rayon is a mainstay in silky performance fabrics, and ensure a beautiful drape and feel too.

Last but certainly not least, is Supplex®. This amazing fabric is a special proprietary nylon that is engineered for even the most extreme fitness.  It is soft, supple, sleek, and lightweight, and yet it is extremely durable. Supplex® fabrics are breathable, hold shape, retain color, and don’t shrink.  Supplex is engineered for performance and can take abuse!  Again many great properties but still a synthetic that you probably don't want next to your skin or babies. These are why after research and  years of industry knowledge we are transitioning to more natural eco friendly sustainable fabrics and dyes.

So there you have it – a run down of the awesome fibers we blend to create the absolute best in maternity apparel. Now don't forget to  checking your labels. Always wash your clothes before you wear them or you dress your new baby.
