Do you worry about gaining excess weight during pregnancy or have a fear of getting “fat”? We are thrilled to feature fit mommy-to-be, Heidi. Read Heidi’s great perspective on weight gain during pregnancy.
Hi! I’m Heidi and I blog over at Idlehide, a blog that focuses on healthy living and life in general. I’m a hygienist, marathon runner and healthy living enthusiast. My husband and I are expecting our first baby in January 2014! Oh, and I can’t forget our border collie Sadie and our cat Maggie.
One thing that has always been a “fear” of mine is gaining weight. I have been interested in exercise healthy eating for a very long time. I remember being 10 or 11 and reading the nutritional information on food labels. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not being that young, but that’s how it was. I am thankful though because I am still that way today and I feel like it helps me make healthy and wiser choices day-to-day.
Pregnancy always brought along the thoughts of getting “fat” to the back of my mind. Talking to most of my friends, this seemed to be a generalized concern with having a baby. There are plenty of people out there who prove that just because you have a baby doesn’t mean you keep your baby weight. A lot of hard work and determination can get you almost anything.
It’s definitely not all about the weight gain/loss either. Being happy, healthy, and spending time with your little one is so important. From what I hear, the time flies by and they grow like weeds so I definitely plan on cherishing every moment with our little guy/girl.
So. With all that being said, I have a different point of view on pregnancy weight gain now. Yes, seeing your body change shape and get some extra weight in places isn’t exactly fun, but who are you doing it for? I know I’m doing it for Poppyseed (the name that stuck, because it was the size of a poppyseed when we found out we were pregnant) and all I want is a healthy baby.
I’m making our little baby my priority by eating (mostly) healthy, exercising (not pushing myself), taking prenatal vitamins and trying to take it easy day to day. My sister’s advice was to take some time for myself every evening and just relax. I think a combination of these things is a recipe for a happy little baby!
Head on over to my blog to follow along with my pregnancy, I’d love to have you as a follower!”
